About the game

Chalkstream turns the measured actions of fly fishing into a browser game. Read the water, put a fly near a rising fish, watch for the take and strike before the opportunity passes.

The setting is a chalkstream rather than an open sea. Bankside vegetation, an angler, a rod and the water are part of a three-dimensional scene, while the cream-and-green interface presents the session like a traditional sporting notebook.

How to play Chalkstream

Follow the casting guide and aim for the white timing line. Click promptly to strike when the fish takes. R lifts the fly for another cast. The in-game instructions explain line control and fighting a hooked fish.

Choose Play to open the game. Use Full screen in the player to hide browser controls where supported, or play with the game filling the window. Exit game returns to this page.

Inside the build

How Chalkstream was made

Three.js renders the stream and its surroundings. The scene combines an imported angler model with objects created in code, including details of the rod and reel. The casting motion is authored around the action of fly fishing rather than treated as a generic character animation.

The game separates casting accuracy from the moment of the strike. A poorly timed cast can land off target, while a delayed strike lets the fish escape. That gives the quiet setting a precise interaction loop.

The equipment interface provides another route into the subject. This is an example of a game built around a particular interest: its presentation, actions and terminology all support the same theme.
